Close season?  It just never stops …
There might not be much cricket at the present time, but the activities at Morley CC continue apace throughout the winter months.

Saturday 15th November saw another excellent fund raising evening at the club with a Curry Night and entertainment.   The fund was supplied by our friends from Amaans in Morley while the superb entertainment came from singer Jill Swanson. Thanks go to the army of helpers on the night not least Joanne Jenkinson, Dave Nebard, Michael Cooper, Simon Barraclough, Bernard Cooper and Richard Seddon for all their help in organising a great night. Several more fund raising events are being planned for the winter, details to be announced soon.

The Club’s Junior Development sessions are now up and running every Friday night up until  Christmas at Morley High School.  Many thanks to Graham Austin, Colin Nuthall and Joanne Jenkinson for organising this excellent initiative. Twenty-eight of the clubs juniors are enjoying excellent tuition from Graham, Colin and their team of coaches.

The club are delighted to announce an official partnership with Morley CC of Perth, Western Australia. To find out all about "Morley Down Under", log onto their excellent web site on www.morleycc.org.au to read all about them. One of the benefits of the partnership will be the opportunity for our own players to play cricket for Morley in Australia next winter. Help will be provided with work and accommodation by them and one of the Australian Morley officials will be visiting us next June. Any of our own players interested in this fantastic opportunity should contact Graeme Smith for further information.  Talking of Australia, First Teamer Nathan Bromby is currently playing in Melbourne.

Another exciting partnership has been announced, this time between ourselves and Heckmondwike and Carlinghow CC of the Huddersfield Central League. With plenty of keen competition for places in our senior teams, and a growing number of juniors pushing for senior recognition, Heckmondwike and Carlinghow are willing to offer a limited number of our players an opportunity to play competitive cricket every Saturday, a scheme that has the backing of our own Cricket Committee. Any player interested in finding out more about this venture should contact Graeme Smith.

Other links with the cricket community are being looked at by David Dowse and Joanne Jenkinson.  Both attended the recent meeting of the North Bradford Cricket development group and they are now busy reviving the Leeds South and Heavy Woollen Development Group, of which Morley were founder members. The Development Groups are an excellent way for clubs to resolve mutual problems and gain valuable funding information and assistance.

The Club were represented at the recent JCT 600 Bradford League AGM and all of the major points from the meeting are on their own website.  Morley CC were awarded with a championship certificate for winning the 2nd X1 championship 2nd Division and the draws were made for the First Round of next season’s Priestley Cup and Shield competitions – Morley received a bye in both competitions.  The Leagues’ Annual Dinner takes place in Bradford on Friday 28th November; anyone wishing to attend should get in touch with Graeme Smith.

Congratulations go to James McNichol. The talented youngster completed a memorable season by receiving the Heavy Woollen League u13 Lords Taverners Player of the season award at the recent League presentation night. Well done James from everyone at the club.

Senior recruitment for 2009 has been going well with plenty of activity behind the scenes. Several transfers are currently going through the various administrative stages and the names of the new players will be unveiled on this site in the next couple of weeks.  Two out going transfers have already been completed with David and Gavin Goodlad joining Ossett CC of the CYL.  The Club wishes them well with the new Club in 2009.

Look out for a new look Scorebox for 2009!  The frontage has been redesigned and is being rebuilt, completion scheduled for January 2009. Many thanks to Michael Davies for his design and to Richard Seddon and Seddon Manufacturing for the construction work.

The No 1 for cricket in the Morley area!
