right it's free!
The Powerwalking
Group is a gathering of women who use powerwalking as an aid to achieve fitness. Powerwalking is suitable for both fit and
non-fit individuals and is an excellent foundation for people who want a safe exercise that requires no special skills or
equipment and can be done virtually anywhere. The walk is structured to give walkers variation in walking speeds using differing
intensities on varying types of terrain e.g. grass, track, road walking or combinations of these.
There is a common
misconception that walking is not exercise. A lot of people believe that in order to be healthy and to lose weight, you need
to do high impact exercise. Luckily, this is not the case. Walking provides great overall cardiovascular fitness, lowers cholesterol
levels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis. Walking also alleviates stress and depression
and improves your immunity as well. So COMEWALKING…
Additional
benefits of walking include stimulating creativity and problem solving skills. Walking gives you the opportunity to be outdoors
in the fresh air and the chance to watch the seasons change. It is also the perfect way to get away from phones, pagers,
faxes, e-mail, and other interruptions. And, in addition to all these great benefits, walking is safe, easy, and cheap. What
more can you ask for? COMEWALKING…..
Any woman
who likes walking can attend whether they are ex-runners, recreational walkers, new mums or grandmothers. Those who are very
new to walking for fitness, on a rehabilitation program, or who have just had a baby can choose to complete part sessions
only and build their fitness progressively whilst still making new friends and doing an enjoyable activity! At each
session everyone starts together but individuals choose the duration and intensity according to their own individual level
of fitness. Some walkers may be able to complete the entire route in under an hour, while others may do less. As the
size of the group is often in excess of 60 ladies in the evenings, walkers can always find others of similar ability to have
company when completing the walk - adding to the interest of the activity. Finally there is the option of participating
in occasional social events throughout the year such as meals out.
