The Islabank Fishings
comprise 2.5 miles of single bank with 17 named pools, pots and runs. The water is varied and ranges from water offering good
flyfishing, to deeper runs and holding pools where salmon hold up in all waters heights, even when the water is low, and are
perhaps more suited to spinning or baitfishing.
Fish heading for the incomparable River Isla and its
exceptional tributary the Ericht do so throughout the season; in recent years, based on the fish counter, this river can boast
an annual run of 8000 to 13,000 fish!
The first fish tend to arrive
in February or March, with good runs in April and May, depending on the water so excellent sport can be had on Islabank at
any time with some of the best spring catches in the Tay system made on the Isla. Taking only hours to reach Islabank these
tide bright bars of silver arrive in beautiful condition straight from the sea. In lower water conditions, the salmon hold
up in the deeper pools where the 2.5 miles of the Islabank can hold an impressive stock of fish.
In the summer months especially thrilling sport is provided by the grilse with considerable numbers recorded.
But if bigger fish are sought then September and October can provide both numbers and size. In late summer and autumn the
main later run of fish which will spawn in the Isla itself arrive. These are bigger than the Ericht fish with many from 15lb
to 20lb and bigger.
Therefore, Islabank offers an excellent chance of sport with fresh
run fish at any time of the year. The extensive croyes, deep holding pools and enticing glides means there will always be
the chance of a fish on Islabank regardless of conditions.
To give you the best possible chance of
a tight line Islabank has secured the services of an experienced and skilled fly fisher as the beats ghillie who will ensure
that fishing is enjoyable, safe and hopefully productive. Personal tuition in all aspects and techniques of salmon fishing
and fly-casting can all be arranged!
Considerable improvements have been made during
the Islabank River Management Project. Extensive and significant subsurface structures have been added providing numerous
additional lies within the beat.Extensive bank clearing and enhanced access to all parts of the river completes the picture
ready for 2006.
A superbly appointed and comfortable fishing hut has been erected overlooking the river
and will afford quality hospitality during your stay. A fully fitted kitchen, electricity and toilet facilities will
enhance your experience on the Islabank. Off road parking and access to the beat is extremely good as the road runs close
by throughout the length of the fishings and a short walk gives access to all pools
The thrill and excitement of hooking, playing and landing a wild Atlantic Salmon is second
to none.
Islabank looks forward to giving you
the opportunity.
