CHRIS WOOD.
Chris Wood is an uncompromising singer, songwriter and guitarist,
heralded as ‘the renaissance man of English folk’ when he released The
Lark Descending which included the BBC Folk Award winning song One In A Million
in 2005. His appeal has gone beyond English folk music, he sang at WOMEX where he garnered much praise and found many new
followers. Likewise, his spot at WOMAD festival was testament to his widening appeal. He has also just won another BBC Folk
Award for his part in The Imagined Village with Cold Hailey Rainy Night.
Sun June 1 THE LARK RISE
BAND.
Lark Rise to Candleford is a classic book spawning two plays,
a TV series, an album of music and now a special group including members of The Albion Band - The Lark Rise Band. Lark Rise
to Candleford, written by Flora Thompson, recalls the rural England of the late 19th Century. It is full of stories, customs,
music, singing games and much more. This performance by The Lark Rise Band (a five piece group led by Ashley Hutchings, the
play’s original music director) will present music, words, dance and song from the book and play.
Sun June 29 KARINE POLWART TRIO.
Karine combines piercingly evocative lyrics with the amazing
range of her voice. Together they form a potent instrument. Her facility with words and melody is complemented not only by
her singing's lovely timbre but its immaculate articulation in her own Stirlingshire accent. In 2005 Polwart scooped a trio
of BBC Folk Awards, including Best Album for Faultlines and Best Original Song,
an accolade she won for a second time in 2007. This former lead singer with Malinky and The Battlefield Band will be performing
tonight with Steven Polwart on guitars and Inge Thomson on accordion.
